Prior to joining The Manufacturing Institute, Richard worked as Quality Assurance Manager for precision engineering company Weston EU Ltd, where he upgraded quality management systems to ISO 9001/2000 and BS EN 1479 to meet the stringent standards of customers. He also helped modernise a traditional manufacturing environment, cutting loss rates to 1% via the introduction of SPC monitoring and in-process inspection. As Kaizen Facilitator within Honeywell UK Ltd Richard made a dramatic impact on productivity, reducing operational changeovers from 17 hours to 45 minutes and lead times from 46 days to 3.5 hours. Other roles within the company as Production Leader and Quality Assurance Manager involved introducing an MRP II (SAP) system, improving material flow and aligning problem solving to Six Sigma, which helped reduce defective rates by nearly 60 per cent, saving £23,000 per year.

David joined The Manufacturing Institute following time with a commercial consulting company. Previous to this he had 20 years experience of Production and Operations Management in high volume manufacturing environments. Most recently with British Gypsum where as deputy site manager where he lead the Operations team in the implementation of a World Class improvement programme that delivered significant and sustainable performance improvement. He is a “Fellow” of the School of Industrial Management at Cranfield University
